Water is an essential element to our physical and emotional well-being. Bathing soothes sore muscles, calms the nervous system, releases muscle tension, lifts your spirit, opens your pores, encourages digestion, softens your skin, promotes a restful sleep and eases symptoms of a cold or flu.
Epsom salt has magnesium in it and magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in our bodies.
It is absorbed through your skin when you add it to your bath water. Magnesium promotes relaxation, reduces pain and inflammation and plays a key role in the body’s stress-response system. When I have been stressed nothing has soothed me like an Epsom salt bath with rose quartz or amethyst crystals.
Crystals are another way to incorporate restorative elements into your bath. The simplest recipe is to pop a tumbled stone or two into your bath water with a handful of Epsom salts. You can also create a bathing ritual by incorporating essential oils, candles and soothing music.
Some would prescribe a daily ritual of soaking in a bath, others once a week or once a month. I say at least once a week does the trick. Just by soaking for 20 minutes once a week you can improve your health in many ways.
Crystal Bath Salt Recipe:
- 1 to 2 cups of your choice of salts: Epsom salt, Himalayan pink salt, coarse sea salt or any combination of them.
- 1-3 different crystals or tumbled stones. I suggest no more than 3 types of crystals.
- Optional: 10-25 drops organic essential oil
- Optional: 1/4 cup of baking soda to soothe skin and reduce skin irritations
- Add salt/s to a jar, tumbled stones and essential oils, close lid and shake until combined.
- Add 1- 2 cups of your bath salt to the bath water, once dissolved, step in and soak for 15-20 minutes.
- Note: I have been known to linger in the tub for a half hour or so….
Batch size: You can make enough for one bath at at time or make in bulk and store for future use in a glass jar. I use ball jars for storing larger batches.
Crystals: Quartz for clearing and regenerative properties, (you can also program your quartz with your intentions). Rose quartz, emerald or green aventurine to soothe the soul and to heal and open the heart chakra. Citrine or carnelian for an energy boost or amethyst for relaxation and connection to your higher self. Tumbled stones work well in the bath and for adding to your own bath salt creations.
Note: Some crystals, like selenite are water soluble , so do your home work before popping them into your bath.
The above mentioned crystal properties are brief. For further information on the properties of each crystal you can do a bit of research or read my descriptions for each crystal in my Etsy shop.
Essential oils : Lavender to relax and sooth muscle tension, rose for soothing skin and as a balm for the soul, eucalyptus to clear nasal passages, chamomile to soothe cramps and hydrate your skin, cypress, helichrysum, marjoram, peppermint and rosemary are all great for sore or tense muscles, patchouli for grounding and calming, ylang ylang to alleviate stress and promote a sense of well-being, any citrus essential oil like orange, lemon or bergamot for a mood elevator.
Note: Some essential oils can irritate you when applied directly to the skin. I suggest mixing them in the bath salts first.
Each essential oil has additional properties.which you can research further.
Sending love and light your way!
